seq/rots.
Participate, learn, have fun!
The Parachute Center DZ is about 3 miles north of LODI, California on Freeway 99. Directly next to the freeway on the west side. Take the Peltier exit, cross over the freeway, turn north on the frontage road that parallels the freeway. The DZ is between Peltier and Jahant exits.
Skydiving:
Winds are usually from the west. Do Not get caught down wind on
the east side, there is the freeway and grape fields with stakes.
There are grape fields all around the DZ. Similar to Florida with
swaps & gators, Lodi has grape fields and semi-truck. The
local CRWdogs go to 8,000 feet. The bigger ways go to 13k. CRW
jump run is typically run North to South, right down the freeway.
Stay just barely on the east side of the freeway until 2,000 ft.
then cross over. Watch the winds. For spotting, Collier road is
about a mile north, Chicken Range Rd.(Spiess rd) is 1.5 miles,
Liberty is 2.0, the Golf course is 2.5, the River is 3 miles,
Galt City is the little town north of the DZ. The pilots are very
familiar with the CRWdog jump run, they can help.
Airports:
Sacramento Airport - about 45 minutes north of Lodi. San Jose,
San Francisco, Oakland are 2 hours west on the coast. The evening
traffic can be very very bad heading inland toward the DZ.
Lodging:
Nearest motels are in Galt, 10 minutes north of DZ and closest to
Craig's house.
Royal Delta $ (thin walls) tel: 209-745-9181;
Best Western-Galt Inn $$$ 800-780-7234;
Comfort Inn $$$ 209-744-7800; Lodi motels, 5 min. south of DZ:
Lodi El Rancho motel $ 209-368-0651;
Del Rancho motel $ 209-368-5348,
Quality Inn $$ 209-367-4848.
Or various motels in Lodi. Camping and showers at the DZ -- the
packing hanger might be available at night. Or bring a sleeping
bag and stay at Craig's.
Sight Seeing:
Spring weather can be iffy, rain or fog, do not spend the day at
the DZ watching it rain. San Francisco Bay area, sight seeing in
"The City". Do not call it "Frisco". You can take the BART
(train) from the "East Bay" stops right down town, take the cable
car over to Fisherman's Wharf, or if you drive, there are parking
garages. Take a "trip" to Haight-Ashbury, check out the Golden
Gate Bridge or a day tour (reservations required) of Alcatraz
Prison (the Rock). Dine at some great restaurants at Fisherman's
Wharf/Pier 39, dim sum in China Town, garlicky food at Stinking
Rose (North Beach), garlic roasted crab at Crustaceans (Sunset
District) or very high end dining Tommy Toys (Financial
District), Chez Panisse (in Berkley), BBQ ribs Big Nate's ( Soma,
So.of Market) or Chef Edwards BBQ (in Oakland; you'd better be
packin', and I don't mean you parachute.) In San Jose in the
South Bay has the Winchester Mystery House, about 1 hour south of
San Jose is the Monterey Aquarium. You can go wine tasting
locally in Lodi or 1 hour East in the foothills or 2 hours over
to Napa (North of SF) There is wine tasting, in the area, couple
of exits before Peltier, Woodbridge Road. West about 1/2 is the
Woodbridge Winery, Robert Mondavi is the owner.
Competition:
The competition is far from being serious but I like the
challenge that competition brings. This is a great time to learn
and try new things. It is a great time to get together do CRW and
party with the Dogs. You can form your own team(s) or we will
help organize teams as required. Think of a team(s) names. You
can be on more than one team, make "do over again" jumps.
Competition is Self Scoring or Video; altitude 8k to 4K. One CRW
jump by anybody followed by an open beer. "constitutes a meet."
Participate, learn, have fun! The dive draw and addition
competition info to follow later.
Friday is kind of an open day, travel day and competition jumps.
Competition dives will be posted. The crwdogs there on Friday
will be forming teams, making "practice" jumps or competition
jumps. If you want do competition jumps Friday, you can, as many
teams or times as you want.. Friday night: Craig's house for
